Kelly Husbands

Kelly Husbands

Kelly C. Husbands, 69, Nephi, beloved son and father, passed away Sept. 14, 2023. Kelly was born in Salt Lake City Nov. 14, 1953, to Norinne Hayward Wessman and Melvin Clifford Husbands. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a testimony of the restored gospel.

Kelly attended South High School, class of 1972, where he was on the swim team and found a love for cars and motorcycles. He married Janica Wood in 1980 and had seven children together; they later divorced.

Kelly attended and graduated from the police academy in 1981. He then attended and graduated from Utah State University in 1985 with his bachelor’s degree in social work. He later went on to graduate from BYU (but remained an Aggie through and through) with his master’s degree to become an LCSW. He worked many years as a social worker where much of his time was spent overseeing foster care and private adoptions, and later private probation services. He also spent much time helping veterans in various capacities.

Kelly loved spending time on his motorcycle with many good friends and traveling near and far to visit his many friends and family across the state, and especially his grandchildren, who loved to have cookies and read books with Grandpa. He enjoyed good music, shooting and collecting guns, participating in cowboy shooting shows, and reloading his own bullets. He also had a love for classic cars. He was a lover of animals, especially his dogs.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his seven children, Jennifer and Tony Madsen, Michelle and Dale Pendergast, Kristin and Matthew Fifield, Kevin and Crystal Husbands, Sean Husbands, Michael Husbands, and Scott Husbands. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Zorianna, Dante, Corbin, Elias, Axton, Jayli, Brevin, Henry, Norah, and Clifford.

Kelly was preceded in death by his mother, Norinne, his beloved grandmother Lillian Madeline Sullivan and grandfather Clifford Axton Husbands, and his older sister, Jill, who died at birth.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North in Nephi. A graveside service will be conducted Friday morning, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South in Salt Lake City. All those who consider him their friend or family are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to help with funeral expenses be made to the Kelly C. Husbands Memorial Account at Mountain America Credit Union.

Funeral services under the care of Anderson Funeral Home and Goff Mortuary.
